Girls Get Equal Project
From 2020 to 2024, People’s Development Forum (PDF), in partnership with Plan International, implemented the Girls Get Equal (GGE) Project in Rukwa Region to prevent child early and forced marriage and address gender-based violence.
The project strengthened Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs), trained duty bearers—including social welfare officers, teachers, and community leaders—and improved referral pathways to ensure cases of violence against children were effectively identified, reported, and managed. By 2024, 125 CBCPCs were fully functional, enabling communities to better prevent, respond to, and monitor violations of girls’ rights.
In addition, the project supported girls’ clubs and youth groups to build confidence and advocate for their rights, while community dialogues and engagement with traditional and religious leaders helped shift harmful social norms. These efforts contributed to increased awareness, stronger protection systems, and safer environments where girls can grow, learn, and thrive.
